When I Was a Child

Now that I am thirty-eight years old, I always remember when I was a little girl... We are living in a farm that is almost like a forest because it is almost 3 kilometers away from the national road and we have no neighbor at all. Even we are very far from the town we live very happy. Maybe because I am a little kid I have no problem. I am just playing under the trees, picking fruits, playing on river while fishing different fishes, sometimes I go with my father to the forest to look and hunt birds and other animals for our food. By then, we cannot buy fish or meat in the market because of financial difficulties and long distance from our house to the town market that's why we just harvest fruits and vegetables that my parents planted. Every time I feel hungry, i just pick any fruits available for the season, there are guavas, star apples, santol, bananas , lanzones, oranges, aratiles, papaya, mangoes, jackfruits, and many many more. And every time we eat our breakfast, lunch or dinner, we just eat the same food as we ate our yesterday's food, and these happens always. But even though we always eat the same food again and again, I still thankful because we ate more than three times a day, and most especially we are eating our food together. I am glad that I experienced all of these things and I missed those moments with my family and the farm where we grew together with love and contentment with my sisters and parents. I also remember the moments I have with my family like we ate our lunch in the leaves of banana under the big santol tree, we swing under the jackfruit tree, we harvest some root crops like sweet potatoes, cassava, yam, ginger, onions and others like corn, tomatoes, squash and many green leafy vegetables. When I was a child I feel very contented with what I have even when I go to my grade school i only have a pair of school uniform(a blouse and a skirt) and a pair of slipper and a small plastic bag for my notebooks. I only have 10 cents as my daily allowance for school. With only 10 cents, I can buy a cup of noodles, a piece of banana cake and a glass of pineapple juice. If I recall all those things I still want to be a child of my time. I've really, really missed the things I have mentioned above. And I hope and pray that the farm where I grew up, someday I will be back and live there again and do the things I did with my kids when I was a child.
